Demo Description
“It’s not just about what you see…but how you see it.”
In this color-focused demonstration, Anne will show you various ways to mix and apply color that will make the light sing and the shadows dance! She’ll demonstrate how the fast drying time of Acrylics can aid in layering color and how the outcome can be as vibrant as oils. Color mixing can be daunting in any medium, but Anne breaks down the process of building color with Acrylics into simple concepts and steps that ensure harmony.
Topics will include:
Methods for creating color harmony, color vibrations, and light effects
Exploring how underpainting influences color
The freedom of the limited palette
Using color as a means of expression and finding your color “voice”
Demo Materials List
Paint
I use Lukas Cryl Studio in the large squeeze tubes and also Utrecht Acrylics. Golden Open is also a good option.
My Palette:
Ultramarine Blue
Prussian Blue
*Permanent Rose
Cadmium Red Light
Cadmium Yellow Lemon (or Light)
Indian Yellow or Cadmium Yellow Deep
Yellow Ochre
Titanium White
*Any cool, pink-ish color such as Quinacridone or Primary Magenta will do.
Brushes
I use a variety of Flats and Filberts, primarily: #6, #8, #10, 12 Hog Bristle. My brands of choice are Rosemary and Richeson. While you can use oil brushes for Acrylic, it is advisable to keep a separate set.
Panels/Canvas
Canvas paper is an affordable option for studying Acrylics (I highly recommend Canson Canva Paper).
I also recommend the very affordable Centurion Universally Acrylic Primed Linen Panels. I get mine at https://www.jerrysartarama.com/. Make sure whatever you use is decent quality.
Additional Supplies
• Sketchbook and sketching pencil.
• ValueComp from Artwork Essentials http://www.artworkessentials.com/Valuecomp.html.
I HIGHLY recommend getting one if you do not currently have one.
