Workshop Description
Using simple drawing and printing from home exercises we will embrace the possibilities that arise through happy mistakes. By utilising the spontaneity of mark making and using drawing and printing techniques to help detach our critical minds, we will aim to reconnect with the element of play within art to help create expressive images. Our sense of touch will be a key focal point and will act as a connection between drawing and printmaking. Experimenting will be the key focus on this workshop.
Workshop Outline
Week 1 - Drawing
We will start with a presentation talking about drawing, looking at artist references with a focus on expressive mark making. We will consider different approaches to drawing, printing and painting and the possibilities of combining all three in a work.
We will explore drawing exercises that aim to loosen up our approach to drawing.
Week 2 - Printing
Beginning with a presentation on printing, we will expand on the themes of week 1 incorporating the mono-print technique. We will learn the possibilities this simple process can bring to drawing and its endless room for experimentation.
Week 3 - Drawing, Printing and Painting
In the final week we will be combining three approaches into one, using collage to merge drawing and printing with painting.
