Course Description

Discover the sketchbook as a living, emotional diary—not just a record or travel log, but a raw, poetic space for self-expression. In this course, we’ll dive into diverse drawing styles, writing, textures, and mixed techniques to capture not only where you are, but who you truly are. Your sketchbook will become a liberating tool, unveiling and revealing the profound story of your inner journey. By the end of the course, your sketchbook will become a one-of-a-kind work of art.

Course Outline

Week 1 – The Sketchbook as Refuge

Introduction to the sketchbook as a safe, expressive space. Emphasis on emotional honesty over artistic perfection. Exercises to unlock spontaneous mark-making.

Week 2 – Mixed Media for Feeling

Exploration of various materials such as ink, collage, and handwritten text to convey emotion. Techniques for intuitive layering and emotional depth.

Week 3 – Personal Stories in Pages

Guidance on developing short visual narratives. Integration of drawing and writing to reflect personal memories, sensations, or symbolic moments.

Week 4 – Embracing Creative Chaos

Encouraging freedom through playful constraints. Activities include blind drawing, working with the non-dominant hand, and embracing the unexpected.

Week 5 – The Return

A reflective session to review the creative journey. Participants will select and share meaningful pages, exploring how the sketchbook has evolved into a personal and artistic artifact.
