Workshop Description

This workshop explores urban landscapes through a bold, graphic approach that bridges painting with illustration and printmaking traditions. Students learn to reduce city scenes into strong geometric compositions using flat color fields, controlled edges, and lines, while treating light as both a narrative and structural element. Working with a reduced palette of low gloss acrylic paint as well as technical drawing pens, the class emphasizes clarity, restraint, and intentional decision-making to create images that feel graphic, painterly, and rooted in place.

Workshop Outline

Week 1 -

Students will create simplified thumbnail sketches from provided references, focusing on reduction, geometry, and light as flat shapes.

Students will also play with color palettes and temperature control.

Week 2 -
