Workshop Description

Join this three-week workshop to explore the art of creating quick, impressionistic landscape paintings. Under the guidance of Peter, you will discover:

How to loosen your brushstrokes and approach painting with an impressionistic mindset.

Techniques for using natural light and shadow to evoke mood and emotion.

Methods for mixing colours to achieve rich textures and painterly effects. 

How to incorporate figures into your landscapes to enhance storytelling.

Each session, Peter will complete a full painting, offering step-by-step demonstrations. Over the workshop, you will see two oil paintings and one acrylic painting come to life. This workshop is perfect for artists off all levels looking to capture the essence of a scene with freedom and creativity.

Workshop Outline

Week 1

Introduction to the key characteristic of impressionistic painting, led by Peter.

Full demonstration by Peter, using oil paints, from start to finish.

Homework assignment to reinforce concepts learned in class.

Week 2

Review and feedback on student work.

Focus on techniques for applying thick layers of paint and using light and shadow to convey mood and emotion.

Full demonstration by Peter, using acrylic paints, from start to finish.

Homework assignment to practice new techniques.

Week 3

Review and feedback on student work.

Exploration of incorporating figures, or animals into your painting to enhance storytelling.

Full demonstration by Peter, using oil paints, from start to finish.

Final recap and summary of the course.
