Course Description
An intermediate/advanced still life oil painting course in which we will look beyond the objects and focus on the pictorial possibilities of our subject. Clare will introduce a series of exercises encouraging students to see differently and discover the abstract qualities of our compositions. Considering core elements such as tone, line, light and shadow, colour relationships and edge quality, we will explore ways to represent what we see with paint.
Course Outline
Week 1 -
Introduction of my work and putting together a still life.Students to set up simple/neutral coloured composition at home based on geometric shapes.Monochrome oil exercises aimed at exploring the pictorial possibilities, tonal relationships and abstract qualities of our compositions.

Expanding the colour palette, students will work on a painting over two-sessions, with strategies for how to begin well and how to come back to the painting in week 2.
