Workshop Description
Mono printing is one of the most direct and immediate forms of printmaking, and many of its best qualities and processes can be explored at home without a printing press.
On this course we will explore the key techniques of mono printing, whilst experimenting with new and exciting approaches to the process. We will work in an experimental and tactile manner and form an intimate connection with our tools and materials Through innovative drawing and printmaking exercises we will reconnect with the element of play within image making to create expressive images, detaching from our overly critical mindsets, to embrace the beauty of expression through print.
An experimental approach is essential to this workshop.
Workshop Outline
Week 1
Reductive/Additive
We will start with a presentation on printmaking looking at artist references. Then we will explore the difference between reductive and additive mono printing, and the possibilities when both techniques are combined.
Week 2
Beginning again with a presentation on printing, we will expand on the themes of week 1, exploring this time the painterly approach of mono printing.
Week 3
In the final week we will be opening the floodgates to experimentation to create highly individualistic pieces that display personal preferences to certain mono printing techniques. Mono printing is used as the catalyst through which other mediums and processes can be introduced such as painting, collage etc.
