Workshop Webinar Description
In this 3-session workshop, Jordan Wolfson will demonstrate how he explores form and space. Using still life, Jordan will explain how he develops the forms of the objects and the spaces in between, then moves into a deeper, more surprising painterly experience, beyond depiction.
Workshop Webinar Outline
Week 1 -
Feeling into the space and finding form and compositional placement, with movement and play.
Laying in broad color and setting up large tonal relationships with lots of paint.
Deepening the exploration of the space and form, with gesture and spontaneity.
Week 2 -
In a second painting, slowing the process down and laying out foundations for the exploration, in line.
Continuing the foundations with tonality and color, then increasing the amount of paint.
Looking at the importance of edge quality to create form and space.
Week 3 -
Returning to the first painting, and taking the painting further – strengthening the experience of form, space and exploration.
Taking risks and courting accident.
Examining and strengthening the compositional structure.
Workshop Webinar Materials
These are the materials that Jordan will be using. While oil paint is recommended, participants may use acrylics instead. If acrylics are used it is suggested to use Golden Open Acrylics and their accompanying medium “Thinner”, in order to keep the exercise closer to what is available in oils.
