Demo Description
This oil painting demonstration will focus on capturing the essence of a landscape with bold brushstrokes and convincingly depicting light.
At the core of my tuition is the idea of painting with freshness, confidence and spontaneity. I cover various topics such as composition / tones / subjects choices / brushwork / colour mixing. I’ll explain how focus on the essence of the subject, see things in abstract way, depict light with paint, choose a successful composition, and achieve dynamic and lively brushstrokes. I’ll explain when to stop, what to put in, what to leave out, and have a clearer plan in your head that you can rely on every time so you can really build your confidence as an artist.
Demo Materials List
Oil Paints:
I use the water soluble oils Artisan range from Winsor & Newton. I use water instead turpentine for the early stages of washes and blocking in. Then I use pure paint without any medium, although there is a range of mediums available from Artisan for those who prefer their paints to flow more.
The technique I use is exactly the same as with traditional oils so this demo is suitable for people interested in traditional oils too.
Colours:
Titanium White
Naples Yellow
Burnt Sienna
Burnt Umber
Raw Sienna
Yellow Ochre
Cadmium Yellow
Lemon Yellow
Cadmium Red
Permanent Rose
French Ultramarine
Cobalt Blue
Cerulean Blue
Phthalo Green
Paint brushes:
I will use a selection of rounded edge filbert synthetic brushes from Rosemary & Co brushes sizes 0-6. I have a few small riggers and pointed rounds too from that range for details.
Surface:
MDF board prepared with three coats of Acrylic gesso
