**All sessions are live and will be recorded, students do not have to be present. All recordings will be available to students for 3 months after the final session, after 3 months the recording will be deleted.

Workshop Description
In this workshop, you’ll learn about an approach to oil portrait painting.
Workshop Outline
There will be an introduction to drawing and composition at the beginning of the workshop.
Week 1
After that, the focus for Week One will be on matching values.
Week 2
The focus for Week Two will be on using colour expressively.
Week 3
The focus for Week Three will be on handling the brush and mark-making.

Oil Paints - The oil paints I will use during the Course are Windsor & Newton ‘Winton’ brand
Titanium White
Lemon Yellow Hue
Yellow Ochre
Cadmium Red Hue
Permanent Rose
Magenta
Cerulean Blue Hue
French Ultramarine
Burnt Umber
Oil Painting Mediums
Solvent to clean brushes - I use a Low Odour White Spirit
Thinners to thin paint - I use Winsor & Newton Sansodor (Low odour) Turpentine
Brushes
A selection of short flat brushes; I prefer synthetic as opposed to hogs hair - but it is not essential that you use synthetic brushes.
I mainly use Rosemary & Co Brushes - Evergreen Short Flat, Sizes 4, 2 and 0
Painting Surface
You can use any surface suitable for oil paint to complete your painting.”
I will use Daler Rowney Oil Painting ArtBoard. I will have applied a light stain (ground) of thinned down Burnt Umber Acrylic paint which I will have allowed to dry.
Palette
You can use any type of palette that is suitable for use with oil paint.
I use a Winsor & Newton tear-off palette - 14.5. X 9.5 inches.
Miscellaneous
I will also use:
Table Easel
Jar - for putting cleaning solvent in
Jar Lid - for putting thinners in
Kitchen roll or rags - for wiping off brushes
Spare/scrap oil painting paper or cartridge paper for testing colour mixes
