Workshop Webinar Description

Have you always wanted to learn to paint the human form, but were afraid to tackle such a complicated subject?Fear not!I’ll help you simplify the form into shadow shapes and light shapes, while retaining and encouraging your individual style. This online workshop will give you a front row seat to lectures and multiple demonstrations. Each week you’ll be given an assignment to work on.

Workshop Webinar Outline

Week 1 -

I’ll explain in detail how I approach a figurative painting.Much emphasis will be placed on a convincing value plan, and placement of the model on your canvas.I’ll teach you to find specific landmarks on the form to help with accurate (believable) renditions of what you are seeing. You’ll be given weekly homework assignments. This first week you’ll only use a quiet gray mixture to paint with, after watching a few demonstrations.

Week 2 -

We’ll review what we learned during week one. You’ll receive more help with overall design, composition, strong light effects and we’ll begin toincorporate color.

Week 3 -

More demos, and final grades. (Just kidding!).I hope to help you gain confidence in painting the human form.Who knows, you may even get hooked on creating believable, recognizable, simplified figures for years to come!

Workshop Webinar Materials

Toned canvas panels size 16x12. At least three.

Colors

Cadmium Yellow Light

Permanent Rose

French Ultramarine Blue

Titanium White

Convenience colors, Yellow Ochre, Cerulean Blue, Indian Yellow. (These are not necessary)

Brushes

I typically use a mix of hog hair and nylon brushes. I like long flats and filberts ranging in sizes

2-10. The longer bristles help me achieve a “looser” more interesting stroke. I also like “Egberts” for that same reason. To sketch lightly in the beginning, I typically choose a #2 or #4

long flat. Recently I’ve enjoyed using a Dagger Brush (for tight precise brush marks) and also a Mop brush which resembles a thick, full, soft makeup brush. This one I use for smoothing nervous marks that are distracting.

Other Supplies I use

Blue shop towels (much like Viva but even stronger)

Trash receptical

Gamblin’s Gamsol oderless mineral spirits

Palette knife

Rubber tipped sculpting tool for signing
