Workshop Description
In this course you will learn about the two strands of my art and design practice - surface pattern design and collage. We will discuss the commercial applications of my design work and the similarities and differences between that and my current fine art practice - and how the two overlap.
You will use readily available materials (small/medium packaging boxes), paints (any tubes of water-based paints/ink or household paints) and tools (cardboard, toilet rolls, household objects) you can find around your home!
You will experiment with markmaking techniques and ultimately create outcomes using the printed and painted elements.
Workshop Outline
Week 1
Introduction to my art and design practice including a slide show and plenty of time for questions.
Discussion of materials - please bring at least five small boxes with you (from beauty product size up to cereal packet)
Practical element with demo - prepare and paint your surfaces ready for next week.
Discuss items and objects you should bring to week 2.
Q & A
Week 2
A slideshow around the theme of Markmaking with examples. - Q & A
Demos by myself - with discussion around best practice.
Group critique and discussion
Discuss ideas, plans and materials required for week 3.
Week 3
Brief slideshow and discussion around collage and my processes.
Experiment and play with your own prepared materials created in week 1 and 2.
Create a number of finished outcomes.
Group critique and discussion.
All work from each week will be uploaded on the Padlet so can also be discussed there by all.
