Course Description

We will use photographic references of the model. The scale of the sculpture will be life size. Material, water based clay or oil based clay. I will give a demonstration while at the same time describing my thought process. 

Course Outline

Week 1 -

During our first  session we will build the profile which is the most revealing of the character of our subject.

Week 2 -

On the second session we will be drawing where the face features will be constructed and establish the widths. The next step will be connecting the widths with the centre plane of the profile.

Week 3 -

Now most of the clay will be added on the head as well as in the face area. Refining internal drawing.

Week 4 -

Building the ears, eyes, hair and a small portion of tue bust.

Week 5 -

Modelling and rendering the surface of the sculpture.

Course Materials

Portrait armature

Sculpture stand

Calipers

Clay, water based or oil (10 kg block).

Drawing tool and other hardwood tools. 

Wire tools (optional).

Plastic bag for sealing the clay

Spray bottle
