In this 4-week oil painting course, I will share my approach to oil painting and the techniques I use to create quick, expressive, and loose paintings. Also, through a daily painting practice, you’ll master techniques to streamline your process and achieve rapid growth in your work.

Week 1: Establishing a Daily Painting Practice - Develop a sustainable daily painting routine and learn foundational oil painting techniques.

Week 2: Alla Prima Techniques - Learn wet-on-wet (alla prima) methods to create fresh, dynamic paintings quickly.

Week 3: Efficient Techniques and the Power of Values - Use shortcuts and value-driven approaches to simplify and enhance your paintings.

Week 4: Evaluating and Refining Your Practice - Refine your skills, evaluate your progress, and plan for continued growth.

Course Materials List

Several small (6x6, 8x8, or 8x10) Senso or Centurion linen panels, or whatever is the smallest size you are most comfortable painting with

Professional quality oil paints - This is my foundational palette and I use several brands. Whatever you have on hand is fine as long as it is high quality.

Cadmium Yellow Lemon

Indian Yellow

Cadmium Red

Alizarin Crimson permanent

Ultramarine Blue

Cobalt Blue

Transparent Red Oxide

Titanium White

Gamblin Galkyd Gel medium or Solvent Free Gel

Gamsol in a brush washing container

Long filbert or long flat bristle brushes - I really like Rosemary and Co Chunking line and Silver Brush Grand Prix Bristle
