**All sessions are live and will be recorded, students do not have to be present. All recordings will be available to students for 3 months after the final session, after 3 months the recording will be deleted.

Workshop Description
Join me for a three-week exploration of expressive abstraction inspired the creative freedom of Cy Twombly and the painterly energy of Joan Mitchell. Rather than painting like these remarkable artists, we'll discover what they can teach us about creating paintings that are authentic, expressive, and uniquely our own. Throughout the workshop, we'll combine the strengths of both artists while developing your own visual language—not by copying their styles, but by learning from their approach to abstraction. We will work with Oil/Cold Wax, Acrylics and Mark Making in this workshop. Let’s Paint!

Workshop Materials
**You can work in Oil/Cold Wax, Acrylics or try both- in this workshop. Materials below are suggestions of what I like to use, feel free to use what you have or your favorite colors.
Oil Paints-**An assortment of oil paint colors, bring your favorites! (a few I will be using -Titanium White,Warm White, India Yellow & Asphaltum, Cadmium Red Light- in Gamblin, Chinese Orange- in Sennelier, Celadon Green, Aubere Pink and Ash Blue- in Charvin, Quinacridone Gold
Cold Wax- Gamblin or Dorlands Cold Wax
Acrylic Paints- **A few colors I enjoy (you do not have to have all these-use your favorites)- Raw Umber, Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold, Quinacridone Magenta, Indian Yellow, Manganese Blue, Titanium White, Transparent Red Iron Oxide, Cadmium Red Light, Black, Neutral Grey, Cobalt Teal or Turquoise, Phthalo Green
3 or 4 --Artists pre-gessoed panels (I recommend the Ampersand gessoboards or the Da Vinci Smooth Gessoboards - they can be cradled or flat-your preference -Sizes-can be 12x12 up to 24x24 -these are suggested sizes- you are welcomed to paint on any size you feel comfortable with.
Arches Oil Paper pad-- in either 12x16 or 9x12. Either size is good.
A trowel or offset style palette knife, 4-inch
Scrapers with silicone blades--Messermeister-the dough scrapers you find in kitchen shops squeegees/scrapers, or Princeton Creative Catalyst scrapers-#1 or #6 are also good!
Color Shapers- 1inch or 2 inch
Brushes - both large & small-flats, brights, rounds- bring your favorite brushes to paint with.
Gamsol-and a spray bottle for gamsol-for Oils
Water- a water container and a spray bottle for water-for Acrylics
4 inch soft brayer
Oil Pigment Sticks –just one or two in your favorite colors (I prefer R&F brand-India Yellow is a great one)
Rags/paper towels & wet wipes
Anything interesting to make texture in paint (tissue paper, stencils, stamps, string, grid, mesh, bamboo skewers etc)
Mark Making tools- Caran d’Ache crayons, soft pastels, graphite pencils, Art Graf, Stabilo crayons (Woodys), King Art Mixed Media crayons
Artist apron/shirt, gloves (optional)
1 inch & 2 inch Blue painter’s tape or the white painters tape
Freezer paper- for palette
