Course Description

Painting does not have to happen only in the studio or only when inspiration arrives. It can become a simple, sustainable part of everyday life.

In this four-week workshop, I will share Good Morning Painting, a drawing practice I have developed and refined over the past ten years to help me maintain a daily painting routine through changing seasons of life. Working with simple, accessible materials, we will discover how a small daily painting can become a source of attention, curiosity, and creative energy.

Inspired by the quiet observation of Giorgio Morandi and Avigdor Arikha, we will practice noticing what genuinely captures our attention, working quickly without overthinking, and embracing repetition as a way of deepening our visual language. By the end of the workshop, each participant will develop a personal version of the Good Morning Painting practice that can continue long after the class ends.

Course Outline

Week 1: Introduction to the Good Morning Painting method, its principles, and the story behind the practice. First drawing session together.

Week 2: Painting from curiosity. Learning to notice what really attracts your eye and creating small drawings inspired by observation, intuition, and repetition.

Week 3: The power of the small format. Exploring freedom, experimentation, and different materials through small-scale paintings.

Week 4: Developing your own Good Morning Painting practice. Adapting the method to your personal interests, rhythm, and creative goals.

Course Materials List

Sketchbook or drawing paper (200 gsm or heavier)

Colored pencils

Markers

Gouache (optional)

Any additional drawing or painting materials you enjoy using

Simple, accessible materials are encouraged. The focus of this workshop is not on technical perfection, but on building a sustainable and joyful daily painting practice.
