Workshop Description

In this workshop you will learn about my own professional art and design practice - surface pattern design, printmaking and collage. I will talk about the importance of surface texture in my work and how I achieve certain effects. You will experiment with a range of practical print and mark making techniques to make a variety of papers to use in your own art, craft or design projects.

You will learn about artists and designers I find inspiring and will be encouraged to share your own experiences and examples of your practical work. The workshops will be experimental and fun, allowing discovery through accessible printmaking techniques.

Workshop Outline

Week 1 - Monoprinting

Introduction

Creating textures and patterns on paper using experimental mono print techniques.

Week 2 - Gelli plate printmaking

Review and discuss the previous week’s outcomes.

Gelli plates can be used for much more than creating perfect outcomes. You will learn to use yours in an experimental manner to produce marks, patterns and textures that will surprise you and give you a wealth of resources to use in your own work.

Week 3 - Marbling and resist methods

Review and discuss the previous week’s outcomes.

This week, we will experiment with practical processes using everyday materials, enabling you to create further interesting surface textures in your own work.
