Course Description

Join Stephanie Deshpande for a four-week online oil painting course where you'll learn how to paint a mixed arrangement of cut flowers in a vase. Through live demonstrations, the course focuses on simplifying the subject using accurate drawing, strong value relationships, and color mixing. The painting will be developed step by step from block-in through glazing, with recordings and personalized feedback included throughout the course.

Course Outline

Session 1 – Drawing and Block-In

Establish the composition using comparative measurement.

Identify key landmarks, proportions, and the overall placement of the bouquet.

Mass in the shadow shapes while keeping the painting simple and unified.

Start blocking in the local colors.

Session 2 – Developing Form

Continue blocking in the local colors.

Refine the drawing where needed.

Develop the halftones that turn the forms.

Keep colors and values constrained

Session 3 – Refining the Painting

Continue developing the flowers and leave

Strengthen value relationships, edges, and color harmony.

Simplify detail while improving the illusion of depth and light.

Session 4 – Finishing and Glazing

Make final adjustments to values, color, and edges.

Introduce glazing techniques to unify the painting and create greater depth and luminosity.

Discuss finishing touches and knowing when a painting is complete.
