A perpetual problem for artists, particularly for artists that work from the observed world, is how to work on a large painting that would be difficult or impossible to paint directly from life.
Perhaps it is a landscape setting in a remote location difficult to transport materials to, or it is a busy urban public setting where one would not be allowed to paint. Or that it requires the presence of people that are unable to pose or pose together. In this course we will explore methods of collecting and organizing painted studies and then transpose them for use in a larger composition.
Week 1 -
Collecting material by doing painted and drawn studies on site, develop a sketch with a proportional large surface in mind.
Week 2 -
Scaling up a sketch by exploring methods of gridding, scaling and transferring a design.
Week 3 -
Painting from studies.
