Workshop Description
In this Workshop you’ll learn about my methods of using oil paints to expressively depict a portrait that includes both the face and the hands. Often considered a tricky subject to tackle, I will help you to simplify your approach and gain confidence in the medium.
Workshop Outline
Week 1 -
We will practice painting only hands from a photo reference. I will start with a monochrome demo and then proceed to full colour. The focus will be on value levels.
Week 2 -
We will refer to a photograph of the face and hands together. We will discuss my technique of using colour expressively.
Week 3 -
We will refer to a different photograph of the face and hands together. We will continue to analyse the importance of value and the effect of colour - but we will also look at drawing and mark-making in general.
